I thought I would let everyone know what is going on

It ihas been almost 1 month since i posted last. Too busy to do anything but lurk. Sorry. Let's see so far since the last post I have:
1. finished my English class. I made a B.
2. Bought material for the work that needs to be done on the house.
3. Finished my Christmas shopping and got everything wrapped. Sorry Grace, I am
not going to tell everyone what I got you for Christmas on my blog.
4. Got most of my holiday baking done. I only have to bake Brownies for the guys
who will be working on my kitchen while I am on vacation. The plane leave for
VA @ 7:10 am on Saturday 12/15, and demolition starts Monday around 8ish
(depending on the traffic from their house to my house).
5. Have a final in Ethics Tuesday night. So far, I have A in that class.
6. Got my eyes examined. My near-sightedness is now more far-sightedness. It
happens as we get older. We don't get older, only our children do, right?

Please continue to pray for Mrs. Riffe, she fell and broke her arm.

Also, continue to pray for one of our church members, Ron Worley. He got a new liver last Monday and needs a lot of rest. We have been praying for a new liver for quite some time for him.

I am really getting excited about my new kitchen. I can't wait to prepare my first meal in my new kitchen. The stove and refrigerator are not new ( I bought them last year) but when I go to prepare the meal, I will be able to put dishes in the sink and not have to use the sink as part of a countertop anymore. I figure I should have about 5 more feet of countertop space. I will then not need the piece of plywood to place over my sink so I have room to put food on the counter for a big holiday meal. I will also have 14 electrical sockets ( 3 doubles and a single outlet) to be able to plug in something more than the coffee pot and the toaster. I will post pictures as soon as they are done.

I won't be here for most of the work. That is very hard for me to do. I am so curious as to how it will be taken apart and put back together it is almost killing me to leave. But if I stay, I will be in the way. So, I will just have to sacrifice the warm weather of Florida for the cold of Virginia for few days. Pray for us as Grace is driving back.

If I don't get a chance to post before 12/25. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Remember the reason for the season.

My Birthday

Yesterday 11/18/07 was a good day for me. It was my birthday. My spiritual one..
On 11/18/01 at 8pm I sat on the front row at Smyrna Baptist Church with my friend Pam Rios and admitted I was a sinner and accepted the Lord as my savior. I had been a member of my church for almost 3 years (I don't remember the exact amount of time), thought I was saved, but wasn't sure.

I can tell you about that day. Since the homecoming services in September of 2001. I had been wrestling with emotions. I wasn't good enough to do anything. Everything I did, turned out the exact opposite. Dinners were being burned, fires almost started in the kitchen, always butting heads with Grace, my father and anyone else that I came into contact with that would conflict with me. The only ones that didn't get me upset and angry at the moment was when I went to church for Sunday services and Wednesday night services. I WAS PUTTING ON A FRONT! But I would come home from church, sitting at the dinner table and talking bad about the church members. No we didn't have roaster Preacher, daughter dumplings, or any other family member side dishes. But it was always, why did that person do this and why does that member always talk like that. Why does this one do this and that. That person makes me so irritated. Always because I was wrestling with AM I SAVED?. Please keep in mind, Grace was attending West Gate Christian School. She was saved and I was too, right?

Anyway, this particular Sunday, Grace had to sing in the choir at West Gate. We had planned to go to our Sunday School, go to West Gate for the singing and then back to our church for the sermon.
Well, we sat in the back where the latecomers sit because we were leaving Sunday School early. Pam was leading the Sunday school singing and was teaching us "Do you know my Jesus". I couldn't sing it. I cried the whole time. In fact, I hid my eyes with the song sheet from Missy Dean so she wouldn't see my tears.
We went to West Gate, Grace sang, Brother Shaw had everyone sing "Thank you Lord for saving my soul". I couldn't sing that, either. We left before Pastor Turner started to preach. Got to Smyrna in time for my Pastor to say you should know the date and the place where you got saved. He said that he didn't check the exact time on his watch but he remembered the type of day and other particulars. He said it with emphasis enough to make me almost stop in my tracks when I walked in the door. Grace and Alicia (she had gone with us to West Gate) sat on the back pews in the corner giggling about someone who had fallen to sleep in church. After the invitation was given I went up but didn't ask for anyone to go with me. I just prayed. After church, we were going to Publix and I said to Grace, I don't think I am saved and I didn't want to embarass you. She said Mom then you need to take care of it.

I did my normal Sunday routine. Ate lunch, took a nap. Got ready to go back to church. Brother Gay then had us sing Victory in Jesus. I was sitting on the 2nd or 3rd pew in the middle section of the church. I covered my eyes with the book because I was hiding my tears. During our handshaking time I told Pam I need to talk to you and made plans to talk later that week. I got through the service and after the invitation, I told Pam can we talk now. I then told her and saw a look of shock on her face. And then, God, Pam and I got it taken care of, right then!

I don't know where my life would be without the Lord. Yes, I still stumble and fall and make silly mistakes - mostly opening my mouth without thinking in advance. But I know who I am now and where I will be after I am not on this earth any longer. I know that I am to follow God's will and not my own. I know the past 3 years have been rough on me and my family but I know who has been and will continue to be glorified through it all and it is worth every trial and tribulations I can go through if it makes me closer to my Father. I am not well versed in scripture and do not know a lot of things other people know but I don't need to compete with them nor do I need to compare myself to them. The only thing that matters is

I am a Christian and proud of it.

I continue to grow, learn and teach others (with the children's Sunday school class and Jr. Church) and I wouldn't give it up for anything unless the Lord has other plans for me.

I only wish that I had done this 20 years earlier but I know that this all was in God's perfect timing and HIS WILL not my own.

11/8/07

Today is a really good friend's birthday.

We don't get to see each other often because she lives about 30 miles away.
We don't even get to talk on the telephone that much anymore nor do we get to send emails back and forth. We usually get to read each other's blogs- she comments, I lurk. I do that well and daily might I add.

So,

This one's for you Pam.

Happy Birthday, have a great day and God Bless you.

All's Quiet on the Western Front

... or Phase I is done of the house.

This is one of the during pictures. This time last year the house was green with brown trim.

this is the front porch. The "sidewalk to nowhere" is gone.

href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaoXB0PBfjtsusdXNHfFgn4MSdRGmZuvB_TEemBWsgpFQTr_DvyzpGQdj8WnyxZkaX6gK7WetqyJL5TisBP7j1iVRWf98DfhShf1uGRpSTC0ZiINeNmWJYvSYIaLktALzHdYQua0m5_q74/s1600-h/P1000492.jpg">

The new kitchen which will be done in December (that will be Phase II). The cabinets will be about the same color as the microwave cart on the right of the picture.

And this is the dining room.

Hopefully, during December (while I am on vacation and not in the house) the kitchen will be destroyed and rebuilt to match the floors. There will be NO MORE WHITE CABINETS and no more WALLPAPER. My kitchen will probably be the same color as the rest of the house. SPICE! Sounds kind of boring but if I want a red kitchen this week and a purple one next week, I can just change the accessories and have it the way I feel. I may pick a color but I promise it won't be pink. They will not use pink paint. hee hee. Also, during that time the office floors will be done (in laminate like the rest of the house). Because my office carpet looks awful up against the dining room laminate floor. Yes, I have been convinced that I should do that.
Now, for the thank you speech:

I wish to thank:

"The 3 Amigos, Musketeers,or Stooges" (you pick one) - Josh x 2 and John-
Thanks for a barrel of laughs. It was worth the breakfasts and brownies just to have a great looking house.

Anytime you need breakfast or brownies(from the Brownies and breakfast diner) call and they will be ready. Sorry, I am not sharing all the brownie secrets but to say hershey chocolate bars!

Rios- Thanks for killing the attack snake. Even though, it may have been harmless, you got rid of it for us. Also, for anyone fighting pesky snakes.. SNAKE-AWAY doesn't work. It smells like moth balls and they still hang out wherever they want to go.

"Hercules" - Todd
Thanks for lifting my stove and lots of other furniture and for fixing the rangehood.

Mrs. Riffe - for helping to clean the house.

Well, during this adventure my pastor's family got to see the skeletons in my closet, (no lie- they found rubber skeletons in my closet). Snakes were seen and the big one DIED.

I have had several people stop by and comment on how great the house looks. They have been watching the progression of the house.
Hopefully, they will get more work in the neighborhood from this. The only problem with this is the commute, the traffic is awful.

I am Alive

I haven't posted in over a month. Don't give up on me. I just believe in the old-fashioned way to keep in touch - Pick up the phone and talk. I think I like to hear myself talk. My house is looking great. The floors are here and they are installed in one of the bedrooms. Actually, the boxes were put in one of the bedrooms. Just a little contractor humor.

The colors match now. I got a few expert opinions about the color of the foundation but I went with the majority of the consensus - the same color of the siding. (Actually, I thought that was right too but I wasn't sure). I have never had to do decorating before in my life. I went from my mother's decorations to early garage sale-apartment living with someone who decided that pictures on the wall was to damaging and you won't get the deposit back and then back to my dad's taste- which was vanilla - beige walls, beige baseboards, beige floors, brown carpet, you get the picture (yawn, just typing that). There are no really feminine touches in the house except for the pictures on the wall of the flowers (now) the styling products in the bath and the heels, dresses and skirts in the closets. I am not a frilly, girly girl. I would rather be dressed in my jeans or shorts and t shirt and bare feet. Lace and ruffles and flower arrangements are not my cup of tea, and I prefer diet pepsi! I like things cozy, comfortable and anything that applies to the KISS method (Keep it simple, stupid). Occasionally, I like fresh flowers but not always. Sorry, pink is not my favorite color, blue and purple are (but not together). Roses are beautiful (and I appreciate them) but my favorite flowers are daffodils, tulips, daisies, and those little white flowers that grow in the yard that show up after the first rain. The ones that look like tulips, but are actually weeds!
I really don't like contemporary stuff I like old fashioned real wood and upholstered furniture-brass and glass are too much to take care of. Maintenance free that's me! I would much rather shop for stuff at an antique store (or a junk store, I was being nice) than to go to Rooms To Go and pay a fortune. The older stuff has character. My tv is still an old console model with a wooden cabinet. The remote control takes a 9 volt battery! I do have a computer and an MP3 player but can't figure out how to get the music from the computer to the MP3 player. It is pretty sad to have to call up Best Buy to have the high school students teach you computer. Pretty soon the black and white volkswagen will be parked in my driveway permanently(THE GEEK SQUAD)

Well, before I start sounding like a reject for eharmony.com, I need to move on.

I am still in school. English and Applied Ethics. Going pretty well, so far.
Work: OT is supposed to stop at the end of October. We are prepared but don't think it will ever stop completely. I don't think that I have had a paycheck without OT in it for almost 1 year. I am truly thankful that God has blessed me with the ability to be at home to work and to be able to have the OT because I am still getting used to paying the electric, phone and water bills, taxes and property insurance. We had customer service week last week and we all got "gifts". I was trying to make a joke out of it but it sounded more like complaining. I need to apologize to the people I wsa talking to. I was comparing last years gifts to this years. Last years, we got around $50 in gift certificates and this year we got 3 pens, a keychain with a bottle opener, a 2008 planner and a mouse pad. Someone explained to me that even though it was a little bit, I should be thankful I have a job that I do from home- Thanks, Josh Vernoy!

Grace came home for homecoming services on 9/30. We had a great time on Saturday the 29th. We went shopping and the rule of the day was not to buy anything without a coupon. Worked out great! I was broke and she went back with a suitcase full, as usual!
On Sunday, she surprised the church when she came in. Mrs. Riffe cried. She actually thought she was at Crown for a minute when Grace walked up. Grace looked really like a teacher. I am so proud of her, even though I don't show it as much as I should. The sermon I heard was awesome. I helped in the kitchen during the sermon but I read some of it at Julee and Gay's house last Thursday night.

Grace will be coming home in about 3 wks for fall break the first weekend in Nov. But she won't be able to come home for Thanksgiving. We talked about it and she understands (and I do too!) that $899.21 is too much for a plane ticket. Besides, she would come in late Wednesday night and leave early, early Saturday morning to be back at school by 4pm for choir. We are going to have Thanksgiving during fall break and she wants a big family celebration so she requested that a couple of families from church come for dinner.

The choir is going back to England in March-she is excited. Pray for the funds to send her. It is $2000.00 this year.

Her classes end on 12/6, then she has an interim from 12/6-14 and my classes end on 12/12. Pray I have the funds for next semester and the company will continue to help pay my tuition.

I am flying into Norfolk, VA on 12/15 for the Christmas Party with my dad's family and have to be back at work on the 24th. Grace has interims the 6-14, so she will drive from Powell to Smithfield, VA on the 15th. Then, she will drive home. We will probably leave on the 21st and drive until we can't go any further and then be home before 2 pm on Saturday to pick up Spanky. We should have a good time.

and...
I am still on Weight Watchers, trying to follow it. I am still trying to meet my first goal 10% of my weight. It takes a long time and God is still teaching me patience. Then my next goal will be 30# and then 40# and so on and so on....

Too much to do, too little time!

Someone(Pam) asked "Wherefore art thou?"

I haven't had time to blog. I have been:
trying to keep my schedule open so Grace & I could spend time together.
working 50 hrs per week
taking English and Ethics at school
Getting estimates to put laminate floors in my house.

Grace has a real burden in her heart for England. Crown college is asking for volunteers to go over there for the semester. Pray for her as she is trying to be able to raise the money to go. She feels God is leading her there and God will provide. She said that she could use the student loan money but she knows God wants her to rely more on him and will only use that as a last resort.

She said that she feels out of place not being at Crown in England. She knows God wants her at Crown but in England. She said that she would continue in Powell until God is ready for her to go. She also knows that her mission is working with children, her time in England with the teen rally I think really made that more solid.

What a blessing she has been to me in the past few days. I don't hear from her often but when I do.. its good stuff!!

Work is too much!!!

English is hard! trying to read stories and write papers on those stories.
Ethics is pretty good. Grace's friend Melissa Capitano is in my class! I thought that was really strange. I still have to write papers- but with a pen and paper not a computer and printer. That is weird!! I have a bad case of writer's cramp, not carpal tunnel.

The floor thing has me baffled. The beautiful tile that was put in my kitchen 1 year ago is cracking on the grout lines because it wasn't installed properly. Well, it has to come out and laminate floor will be put in its place. I am just praying on which company or person to use.

Weight loss isn't going well. I take one step forward and 3 steps back. I had finally hit the 20# mark but gained part of it back. Still working on it. It isn't going away overnight. Aw shucks!

But I did get this from a friend (Mary Hagberg)via email (I sent it to everyone I think) and I thought it was good, especially the comments at the end of the story:

A Great Story
A young lady was waiting for her flight in the boarding room of a big airport.
As she would need to wait many hours, she decided to buy a book to spend her time. She also bought a packet of cookies.
She sat down in an armchair, in the VIP room of the airport, to rest and read in peace.
Beside the armchair where the packet of cookies lay, a man sat down in the next seat, opened his magazine and started reading.
When she took out the first cookie, the man took one also. She felt irritated but said nothing. She just thought: “What a nerve! If I was in the mood I would punch him for daring!:
For each cookie, she took, the man took one too.
This was infuriating her but she didn’t want to cause a scene.
When only one cookie remained she thought: “ah…What will this abusive man do now?” Then, the man, taking the last cookie, divided it into half, giving her one half.
Ah! That was too much!
She was much too angry now!
In a huff, she took her book, her things and stormed to the boarding plane.
When she sat down in her seat, inside the plane, she looked into her purse to take out her eyeglasses, and, to her surprise, her packet of cookies was there, untouched, unopened!
She felt so ashamed!! She realized that she was wrong…
She had forgotten that her cookies were kept in her purse.
The man had divided his cookies with her, without feeling angered or bitter.
… while she had been very anger, thinking that she was dividing her cookies with him. And now thee was no chance to explain herself nor or apologize.

There are 4 things that you cannot recover.
The stone…
… after the throw!
The word…
…after it’s said!
The occasion…
…after the loss!
The time…
…after it’s gone!

I am done with Summer Session B

I made a B.I made a B.I made a B.I made a B.I made a B.I made a B.

Oh! by the way i made a B. IN PUBLIC SPEAKING. This very shy, introverted person mad a B. I was so quiet when I was in high school. My history teacher gave me the "Jesse Helms silent majority" award in our senior history class. I even sat still and was very quiet while the professor talked about a Baptist Minister dancing in the aisles of church. But I had to make a comment when he said something to the effect that the conservative Christians like your Baptists and Church of Christ people like to home school and they look down upon the ones who don't. I had to defend my friends then. I then advised that i was independent Baptist (I think I saw him roll his eyes half way) and told him that several of my friends homeschool and never have looked down on me because I didn't. I didn't send my daughter to public high school but she went to private christian school and is now at a private christian college. He was giving an argument about anti homeschooling. I then explained a little about Shane (his test scores) and Joshua (ability to play sports with WestGate) because he said homeschoolers sometimes did not get the complete education and sometimes lack social skills. He then said well your friend is a good mother to make sure of this.

Thank you Lord!!!

I now have 29 credits and 31 more to go. I am already registered and paid for the fall semester.. Freshman English II and Ethics. I was going to take religion but it was a conflict with my church visitation schedule.

Which is more important? This is a no brainer!!
Yep you got it right!

Whew!! Life has been sooo busy here lately. Grace goes back to school on Tuesday. Even though the dorms don't open until 8/24, she is going to go to work @ IHOP up there and make her book money. She has some friends that she will be staying with before the dorms open.

I can't believe that she is leaving already. My baby is too young to be a Junior in college.
I can't believe I am in college.
God gives us so many choices and all I had to do was lean on Him to make the right choice. Still trying to hit the 20# weight loss mark. It is tough, but I will not give up.

Childhood Obesity

Ladies and Gentlemen, our country is facing a rising health problem. This is almost to EPIDEMIC proportion. You asked what is she talking about?

AIDS, CANCER, DIABETES, HEART DISEASE ?

NO neither of them.

IT IS CHILDHOOD OBESITY.

According to the National Commission on Role of School and Coummunity in Improving Adolescent Health “For the first time in the history of the country, young people are less health and less prepared to take their places in society than were their parents” Afraid to Eat.

In 1999, The US Depart of Health and Human Services reported that 13% of children aged 6-11 and 14% between the ages of 12-19 were obese.
In 2003-04, 17.1% of children between 2-19 years old
(12 ½ million children) were overweight.
Girls 13.8% in 1999, 16.0% in 2004.
Boys: 14.0 % 1999 to 18.2% in 2004.

Today, We have discussed the causes, dangers and ways to control childhood obesity.

Let’s begin with the causes. We are going to look at, sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy eating habits and genetics.

Well you say… I know what the cause is …the child doesn’t need to watch so much television, play too many video games,
and chat on the computer,... and they don’t need to be eating so much..
. Give them enough food to feed a little bird … and then make them go outside.
Now, it is your responsibility… mom and dad… to make them play and be active.
If you have to chase them around with a stick to make them exercise, then do it.
This is what society will think when they see an overweight child.
Well, that is not always the case.
You can probably agree that children today have more indoor activities than outdoor activities to choose from.
They can watch over 200 cable channels on television,
play video games,
or chat with their friends on the computer.

Then, comes the unhealthy eating habits.
Moms work too, children go to day care
(more than 80% of children of working parents go to day care)
parents do not have time to get supper on the table at a decent hour so they
order something to eat.
More times today the question is where do you want me to go than what would you like me to fix
people eat out more, the portion sizes are largest
Weight watcher’s member are advised :
When McDonald’s first opened up their average meal was the size of a happy meal. Now, it is supersized.
And you get more bang for your buck when you order in larger quantities, right?
When you go shopping for dishes:
even, the plates sizes are larger than they were in the 1950’s. the dinner plate was the size of a salad plate.
and most children are still encouraged to be members of the clean plate club. Eat everything on your plate and you’ll get ….
Even though sedentary life styles and unhealthy food choices are part of the problem so is another cause: genetics.
Children are obese because their parents are obese .
Yes, the way your parents, grandparents, aunts uncles look can also factor in if your child can be obese.
Are you surprised? I was too.
I was expecting (just like everyone else)
that the reason children are obese was because their parents were lazy
and let them grow up in front of the televisions/video game/ computer
and wouldn’t cook their meals or give them healthier choices. Money is tight and it is cheaper to buy chips and dips than apples and celery.
My feeling was it is the Parents fault, not because the parents are obese but because of other factors?
Boy was I wrong.
Genetics do have a part in this also. The National Institute of Health’s website says that 75-80% of the percent body fat or PBF in children was due to genetics
, while 20-25% is attributed to other factors – eating habits and physical activity.

Since we have discussed the causes, let’s look at the dangers.

The most common side effect is cardiovascular disease. According to CDC’s website, 60% of overweight children between 5 and 17 had at least 1 CVD risk factor and 25% had 2 or more.
Risk factors are high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure and abnormal glucose tolerance.
Additional health risks:
asthma
Fatty degeneration of the liver. when overweight the liver produces an enzyme to reduce the fat in the body. Weight loss helps to reduce that enzyme.
sleep apnea –Happens in 7% of all overweight children. Sleep apnea can cause someone to stop breathing for about 10 seconds at time while sleeping. Usually people wake up. Sometimes they never wake up.
Type 2 diabetes- also known as adult onset diabetes is now emerging as a health related problem among children,-which brings greater risk factors such as CVD and kidney failure, according to the CDC.
According to Dr. Tracy Vicari, LRNP at Tampa Medical Partners, Inc. she stated that she already has one documented case of diabetes in the overweight child she has as a patient in her office.
Overweight children often become obese adults. according to the CDC.

These are the health risks but there are also emotional dangers which can magnify the health risks.

We have looked at the causes and dangers- lets look ahead to the future of how to help control childhood obesity.
We have to say control childhood obesity because there is really no cure. Sure, when these children become adults there is always the drastic measure of surgical weight loss methods. According to my interview, the LRNP advised against that for any child or person.
According to the CDC, the best way to control obesity is to:
Balance diet with exercise, remembering that the goal for overweight children and teens is to reduce the rate of weight gain while allowing normal growth and development.
In order to do this, parents, family members and friends can encourage the children to have healthier eating habits. Parents can look for healthier ways to prepare favorite meals and they can remove the calorie-rich foods and replace with healthier alternatives. Yes, make the child more active and reduce sedentary time.

Small changes every day can lead to a recipe for success!

We have discussed the causes, dangers and ways to control childhood obesity.

Remember, Overweight children often become obese adults.

This is the speech I will be giving on Monday. Pray that I still have the courage I have right now when I get up in front of the class. This is not grammatically perfect.. because speeches are not read from a "term paper". The ... are pauses in my speech and the capital letters are for emphasis.

I have a little time....

to post. Woohoo!!!

Here's how the weight loss is going. 19# so far. 1 more to get a new outfit. But I may wait until 30# because I went to Old Navy and bought 3 shirts in a size L and had been buying XXL. So that is great. The dress, pants and skirt size haven't changed much.

I would lose more weight if I were not so lazy. But it is hard to put an exercise routine in your daily routine when you are having to do a mom's job (take care of the inside of the house) a dad's job (yard work and garbage) a working woman's job(work) and a student's job (go to class). And I consider myself really fortunate that I can go to work in my office instead of the office (work at home). These are the physical things to do. I remember when I got saved, that I couldn't find enough excuses to read my Bible and pray everyday but God worked that out. He will work out the weight lose in HIS time not mine. I have to keep remembering that.

Class is going pretty good, too. There again, I took on another feat that I had to step out of my comfort zone, except because of my ways - I gave myself a double whammy- go back to school and oh by the way, Missy go ahead and take a public speaking class, you chicken!!
Well, suffice to say, I am getting better at the public speaking thing. My first speech was on Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco. I thought I blew it BIG TIME! I made a C (75), that is only 10% of my grade. Then, the next one was on Chihuahuas with a power point presentation, I did better- C (78). I knew what power point was. How to use it? I was the only one in class not familiar-but my tutor Grace helped me. Want to have some fun--- go back to school when your children go to college and get them to help you on their breaks. What a riot!!!

Wednesday the 18th was the mid term exam. I was up until Midnight Tuesday-up @ 345am for work, worked until 1015, school, then back to work @ 230-430. Whew was I tired but I did get a nap before Church!! Or I would have slept during prayer meeting.

Monday is my next speech. Once I give it and polish it up, I will post it on my blog. This is called a status report speech. You'll be surprised what I found.

I'mmmmmmmmmmmmm Baaaaaaaaaaaccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know it has been a long time since I had some time to post.
It has been busy around here. Here's what is going on!!

1. With Grace home from school, we try to spend a little extra time together. We aren't clothes shopping this year, yet. I have promised my wallet not to spend any more money on clothes until I lose 20#s. Well still haven't reached that. I lose 1.5 and gain 1 back.. THIS IS FRUSTRATING!! But I will not fail. I have God on my side. I keep praying and trying.

2. I started school on 6/27/07. Public Speaking. I had my first speech on 7/9/07. It was scary. Most of the people in my class are younger than Grace!!!
I got up there, started my speech, stammered and stuttered through it. The professor (he's got a doctorate in mass communications!) gave me the symbol to hurry up. I put on the brakes and ended right there. I was soooo scared. But he was generous and gave me a 75. That is a C and even though I am not happy with it. I will take it for right now. The grade is within company guide lines and I can still get the course paid for. I can only improve from there!. It was 10% of my grade and now that I have the initial shock of getting up and speaking in front of everyone, i know I can do better. Besides, this is the first grade I have gotten in almost 9 years when I went to work with Aetna and had training class.

3.I have been having a pretty consistant Jr. Church. Bethany, Kodi, Matthew, Jr., Micayla, Madison, Seth, Matthew, Isaac and Autumn all live in the same house now. So i usually have Bethany, Kodi, Micayla, Madison and Seth in Jr. Church. We just got through with a contest of learning the 10 commandments. Bethany got to go to Cici's Pizza with me on Sunday. The other children were upset but we will continue to work on them and when everyone learns them and can cite them in church, then we will go again.
In fact, they were so upset that David and Vera took them to Cici's for lunch too. Vera explained to them that they were going because they were hungry not because Miss Missy took Bethany. Bethany and I were eating at the table behind them and she said.
" I am truly blessed, I am having lunch with my family and someone from my church."

I had gotten a little upset too because I felt really bad for Micayla she tried so hard but couldn't say them in order and word perfect.

If you are going to teach the word of God, you have an obligation to teach it right!

'nuff said!

But when Bethany said that. I just had to say thank you God for getting me back on track!

Grace is still teaching Sunday School and she has a visual that she is teaching them too, which will help them remember the 10 commandments.
We are also learning about the 10 plagues. They have learned 3 of them and will start on #4 on Sunday.
Sunday is a special day. Mrs. Dolores Harris, age 94 (I think) passed away and her family is having a memorial service. The church is taking donations for new hymnals in her honor and the family will be donating too. We are having dinner on the grounds. Baptists and FOOD--- now, that is fellowship. I am making cottage pie (basically shepherd's pie with turkey), chocolate chip cupcakes with chocolate icing, and pink lemonade pie. No peanut butter pie this time as I want to do something different. Besides, the men'a advance is on the 27th and 28th and Steve Smith is preaching and I know he will need peanut butter pie. I will make an extra one for him and his family to enjoy.

Grace went up to the Pastor the other week and advised him "I ain't singing until you sing with me." Forgive her English, she will only be a Junior in college next year. Well, I went home thinking, now where can I go to church because I know for sure that the Pastor is going to ask me to leave because my daughter decided to tell the Preacher what to do. And when I went to another church, well my reputation will be there before me. Well, he called her bluff and they sang 7/3, just over in the glory land and then did a repeat performance on Sunday 7/8/07. In fact, Brother Gay and Kevin Hand thought that Pastor was going to hold the book for Grace and when he started singing, I heard they were shocked!
... and yes, I think the Pastor is going to let us stay at Smyrna.
What a blessing Grace has been this year to our Pastor. She made him an acapella CD of her (singing) for his birthday, got him to sing with her. What memories! I told her that everyone will have those memories forever.

This has been a jam packed week. Monday and Wednesday my schedule is:
4 am-10 am work
11:15 am-2:20 pm class
2:30 pm -4:30 pm work

this is give or take a few minutes if I don't get to work early enough.

Monday night: went to Hope Children's home for Back to school revival heard Tommy Odom, Seagate Baptist church. I had the honor of taking my Pastor and his wife with me. They called me their chaffuer, cause I drove.
Tuesday night: went to Hope Children's home for Back to school revival heard Tommy Odom, Seagate Baptist church. I had the honor of taking my Pastor and his wife with me. They called me their chaffuer, cause I drove.
Wednesday night: went to my own church
Thursday night: went to West Gate Baptist Church- Grace wanted to see Brother Shaw and his wife. We heard Dr. Woodbury ( I think that was his last name, I know it is Wood something). He was very good. He preached on the 7 reasons for local church membership. It was a long sermon, but he was fascinating and really kept your interest. Very smart man.
Also, got to see the Vernoys minus the McCobbs. It was great to see their smiling faces. Jayde walked up to me and asked do you remember me. I at first said no but then said of course. Jewel looks more like Jackie than I thought. Jayde sat with Grace and me in church. I also got to see Brenda- I haven't seen her since the Mother Daughter tea on May 19th. She looks good too.
Friday night: I might just have to stay home and practice my speech for class on Monday while I wash clothes. Or I might need to catch up on my sleep.
Saturday morning: door to door visitation, cook for Sunday

Now, Rita, you are caught up. It was great seeing you last night!!

Pray for the Braddock Family

This is what is left of the vehicle that my dear friend Diane Braddock and her family own. Her husband, Scott and children, Katie and Zack were on Morris Bridge Road (Morris Bridge is a two lane country road in Northeastern Hillsborough County), traveling about 50 miles per hour, when a Saturn crossed into his lane from the other side of the road. This is the end result of the accident. Scott and the children had to be airlifted to St. Joseph's hospital. Zack suffered a bruised lung, ribs and has a really nasty seat belt bruise on his chest that Diane is majorly concerned about. Katie has a swollen ankle and is on crutches. I don't have too much information on Scott. But all 3 are home and are really bruised, scrapped and very traumatized. You see, the other driver died in this accident, which is what is very upsetting to them.
Also, if Diane would have been with them, she would have been sitting in the passengar seat. Now, you say what passenger seat. It looks like from the picture that the whole passenger side is missing.

Praise God that no one else was hurt and please pray for this family. They need a lot of prayer. Mostly for strength to get through all the loose ends that has to be tied up because of the accident and for healing - emotionally and physically.

Also, prayer for the other driver's family as they pick up the pieces of this most unfortunate accident and their salvation- which is first and formost.

...And for anyone who has to travel any two lane country road/highway please, please be careful out there. Before you leave, buckle your seatbelt and PRAY before you put the key in the ignition.

...and remember GOD IS GOOD, ALL THE TIME!!!!!!

This one's for Pam!!

I am still alive, just lurking on the blogs. I haven't had a lot of time to do much of anything except housework, grocery shop and work. I did go see a few movies this summer.

1. Shrek the 3rd- I thought it was pretty good. You have to enjoy the other 2 to get this one.

2. Pirates of the Caribbean 3- I didn't see one. I didn't care for 2 - I fell asleep before the movie and woke up about the time they showed Davy Jones for the first time. YUCK !!! So I wasn't impressed by 3. From what I understand, 2 and 3 were filmed at the same time, so the plot from 2 carried on through 3, which is what I think a sequel should do.

3. Gracie- this is a good wholesome movie. Grace and I really liked it. The main character in the movie is called (guess what?....) Gracie. Her full name is Gracie Bowen. Which was really weird... Just like when I went to see We are Marshall. I didn't know Bobby Bowden had been a coach anywhere else but The Florida State Seminoles and then during the movie I found out he was once the coach of UWV.

More summer movies I want to see:

Game Plan
License to Wed

There are more but I can't think of the names right no

Last week was very busy..
1. went to Bible School on Thursday night. Shane who was in my Sunday School class wanted to win a chalk picture from Bible School so he invited his grandmother, Sarah Padgett and me to his church for the last night of Bible School. The Arnolds did the Bible School and what a fantastic job they did. I really felt like a kid again when Mrs. Arnold led the singing, did the puppet show and taught the lesson. It was so amazing to watch Mr. Arnold draw his chalk picture. WOW! The Lord has given him an awesome talent.

Then Sarah, Mrs. Riffe and I went to Cracker Barrel for a late supper for them and a midnight snack for me (I am usually in bed by the time we ate. I had a vegetable plate - turnip greens, green beans, pinto beans and cottage cheese. I also had enough points for a biscuit. WOOHOO!!!!!

2. Worked 50 hours last week. I am tired. I finally got the laundry done. Well, at least Grace's is done. I have to dry my dark clothes. I wash them separately because I don't want to confuse the clothes. A lot of the tank tops that are mine look like Grace's.

3. Did get the stove cleaned today. I have a flat top stove and I used an old pan and something was on the bottom of the old pan and it got onto my stove top and I had to scrub it with a Mr. Clean magic eraser to get rid of it.

4. I made visitation both days- Monday and Saturday. Saturday morning, we went door knocking, it was my first time last Saturday with Grace. I went this Saturday and usually I am the silent partner, well not today. I actually talked to (I think) 4 people. I am usually pretty shy until you get to know me. So, that was a leap of faith.

5. Today I am going to a Mary Kay Party that Sarah is giving.

School starts 1 week from Wednesday, I am excited but nervous. I know that God led me to do this and God will get me through. I just pray that I can be a real testimony through all of this.

Spanky's first Birthday

Ok, I went overboard and took an official birthday portrait.
I can't take picture of my baby anymore because she isn't a baby anymore.
I covered the chair in the living room with a red blanket. Made a party hat out of a gift bag that I carefully took apart and shaped like a cone. Threw his blue bone dog toy on the chair so he would go get it. Posed him and took pictures. I wanted the hat on his head but I couldn't torture him anymore than I did.

What's new!!

Lost 12 pounds total...8 more to go and I will have to buy new clothes. Well, maybe not outer garments if you know what I mean!

Getting ready for school on 6/27.

Went to a Mother Daughter Tea - first time I have ever borrowed dishes from anyone.
My cousin Margie went and they were her dishes. This is the first time she has ever heard Grace sing. She said wow, what a powerful voice. I smiled and said yes, she did spend that money on the singing lessons, instead of candy.

I have been keeping in touch and reading everyones blog. I am a lurker. Too busy trying to work 50 hrs a week, go to Weight Watchers and keep up with the house. Not to mention church, which doesn't count in my hectic life because it is a time of relaxation. I hope that came out right. I have a weird way of saying things sometimes.

Here is what I have done on line here lately:

I'm terza rima, and I talk and smile.
Where others lock their rhymes and thoughts away
I let mine out, and chatter all the while.

I'm rarely on my own - a wasted day
Is any day that's spent without a friend,
With nothing much to do or hear or say.

I like to be with people, and depend
On company for being entertained;
Which seems a good solution, in the end.
What Poetry Form Are You?

I am the sonnet, never quickly thrilled;
Not prone to overstated gushing praise
Nor yet to seething rants and anger, filled
With overstretched opinions to rephrase;
But on the other hand, not fond of fools,
And thus, not fond of people, on the whole;
And holding to the sound and useful rules,
Not those that seek unjustified control.
I'm balanced, measured, sensible (at least,
I think I am, and usually I'm right);
And when more ostentatious types have ceased,
I'm still around, and doing, still, alright.
In short, I'm calm and rational and stable -
Or, well, I am, as much as I am able.

Grace's first Sunday School lesson was today. She was so prepared. I was so proud of her (and still am). Unfortunately, Vera fell and bruised her hip Wednesday (she thought it was broken at first)and the children didn't come to Sunday School. So I got to sit in church for the first time on about 2 months. It was nice and I enjoyed the sermon, but I wished that there had been children today.

Vera slipped on a fabric softener sheet that had fallen on the floor. So be careful when you use fabric softener sheets. I got an email once to be careful with the lint catcher in your dryer as the fabric softener adheres to the lint catcher and can cause your dryer to catch fire. I forwarded the email to all of my friends and my frient Mary gave me this advice. If you use fabric softener sheets wash your lint catcher with hot soapy water and dry completely. If you put water through your lint catcher and the water doesn't go through it, then your lint catcher is clogged and needs to be washed. I tried it and washed my lint catcher and it seems to
make the dryer work better. HUM... goes to show that you cannot leave any thing dirty..

This one's for Pam

I tried this one from Pam's blog. Very interesting. Sorry I had to comment after each one. Have a great Thursday.

1. Missy needs her medicine.
It is probably about time to take the diabetes medicine.
2. Missy needs a new look.
Yep, it is time for Teresa to do my hair.
3. Missy needs to lose weight.
Duh, already trying to do that.
4. Missy needs a cat.
Yea, right. A bird, dog and a cat – don’t think so. Not a cat lover.
Won't harm them but don’t need them.
5. Missy needs an American Eskimo dog.
Already have the dog I need.
6. Missy needs a dresser, twin bed and bedding.
Let’s build a new room to put them in.
7. Missy needs someone who will love and understand her.
Already have that.. Jesus loves me.
8. Missy needs a positive odedience class.
Ruff, ruff
9. Missy needs a home.
Have one. Don’t need another one. Unless I win it, which is very unlikely
because you have to enter to win or buy a ticket.
10. Missy needs to go back to her roots
What, my hair color or my hometown?

What are all of those **10**s for? I am sooooooooo glad you asked.

I have lost 10#s.

Only 10 more to go and I can buy a new outfit.
Only about 90 more to go until I hit my goal.

I was kind of nervous going last night because I have eaten a lot since Grace got home:

biscuit and gravy Sunday morning (ONLY 1)
Sunday lunch at Mitchell's Fish Market
snacked Sunday night and Monday night. Was within what I could have but I usually don't eat anything after supper.

I am so proud of myself.

Did I mention I lost 10#s.

.. oh and by the way, my daughter is home for the summer from college.

May 13, 2007

First of all to all the mothers out there... Whether you are a mother to your pet or a daughter or a son. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY.

Today, is a very special day for all of you. But today is a very special day for me, too for 2 reasons:
1.

This morning around 12:01 am, my daughter returned home from college. We had a great day today. We went to church and while I was teaching Jr. Church, I heard her sing. This must be her signature song.. "Little is much"
Miss Julee was in the nursery and she turned up the speaker so I could hear it. I don't think she needed to turn it up because with the power of my daughter's voice, I could have heard it on the next block. Was I beaming.. but of course.

After church, we went to Westshore Plaza to JC Penney and I got her 2 new dresses... Grace in a dress and not a skirt and a top is a rarity so when she liked them, we got them. Grace then treated me to dinner at Mitchell's Fish Market. I had the Shrimp Americana (the lunch entree) the dinner entree is Shrimp and scallops Americana and is about $7.00 a plate more. And then to the Verizon wireless repair store to get her phone fixed. Broken and it costs $50.00 deductible to replace.

Then we came home and in true Crownie fashion, she took a Sunday afternoon nap.
2.

Do you see the picture of the handsome man with my daughter? That is my daddy. He went to be with Jesus in Heaven on May 13, 2006. This is the first year without him. Boy do I miss him, STILL. But I know he is not suffering and he would be very proud of what I have accomplished without him here. Isn't that strange, that we look for the approval of our earthly parents before looking for approval from our Heavenly Father? I am really doing better than I had expected. But shouldn't I? I know who holds my hand and who my Comforter is. And with Him.. all things are possible.

Hope everyone had a great Mother's Day. See you soon. Going to West Gate to go to church tonight. Our church has a tradition of not having Sunday evening service on Mother's Day.

I've done it now!

I having been thinking a lot about what I would like to do with my life.
is it a "mid-life crisis"? I don't think so.

Well, I did some checking and with a little shove by my cousin, Margie and a lot of prayer.

I will be returning to school..

Yes, I am going to finish my degree in Business Administration.

I have 29 credit hours already done and do not need that much more to finish.

I will only get credit for 26 because I made a D in College Algebra and that credit won't transfer.

I will be taking a speech class during the summer semester.

Then, we will play it by hear from there.

My company will pay for most of the education - 80% as long as I maintain a C average. It will be tough at first but I can do it.

I went to register for my class yesterday. I was totally lost. where is room 237 (advising) and where is the book store? But I finally found what I needed and where I needed to be, bought my books, paid for my class, etc. As I was leaving, I was turned around, not lost mind you.. One of the professors was coming down the stairs and asked "Can I help you, are you lost?" . I didn't think he was talking to me so I kept looking at my receipts (in my mind, I was thinking Wow you've done it now and Yes, what a great thing to do, all this at the same time). So, I said to him "me?". He said "yes, you look lost." He then asked me what I was looking for and I said "my car!". He said he couldn't help me with that but I then said if I can find the parking lot, I can find my car. My key has one of those buttons(as Grace would say thingys) that make my car make a noise when I press it.

I was going in the right direction, just got turned around. What an impression I left on the campus. Maybe I need to go back to college!!!

Is there a COLLEGE MAP 101 class I can take?

You Are Sunrise

You enjoy living a slow, fulfilling life. You enjoy living every moment, no matter how ordinary.
You are a person of reflection and meditation. You start and end every day by looking inward.
Caring and giving, you enjoy making people happy. You're often cooking for friends or buying them gifts.
All in all, you know how to love life for what it is - not for how it should be.

You Are Boston

Both modern and old school, you never forget your roots.
Well educated and a little snobby, you demand the best.
And quite frankly, you think you are the best.

My Soapbox!!!!!

I have had something on my mind since Saturday morning when I went to the Relay for Life.

I stopped at the traffic light at MLK and Dale Mabry and was going to head north on Hillsborough Ave. The cancer park had a bunch of protesters standing on the side of the road(that’s the north east corner). So now,I must jump up on my soapbox:

Each sign began like this:

IMPEACH BUSH 4

then each person (there were about 8, could have been more, could have been less) had this added to it:

American
Our Troops
Jesus
There may have been other "reasons" to impeach Bush but those were the ones that caught my eye because I was trying to pay attention to what I was doing -DRIVING!!!

Anyway, this has been on my mind and I need to respond.

First of all, for all of you who want to impeach the President, do you actually know what impeach means?
So for all of you "rocket scientists" who want to impeach the President of the United States here is Webster's definition. that is Merrian-Webster (the dictionary)
1 a : to bring an accusation against b : to charge with a crime or misdemeanor; specifically : to charge (a public official) before a competent tribunal with misconduct in office c : to remove from office especially for misconduct
2 : to cast doubt on; especially : to challenge the credibility or validity of

If you don't have a Webster's dictionary sitting on the shelf next to the family Bible or it is too much trouble to pull it down and dust it off then you can go to:
http://www.m-w.com/ to find out for yourselves.

You protestors probably feel that impeach means to remove from office. Well, let me tell you something. Before our former President was in office, there had only been one President Impeached: Andrew Johnson
Now, there is another one: William Jefferson Clinton (ouch it hurts to even type the name).

And no, Richard M. Nixon wasn’t impeached, he resigned and wasn’t asked to!

Yes, and for all you who are into politics, they were both DEMOCRATS!!!!!!
HUM!!!!

NOW, FOR THE “SIGNS”

For America- the President has tried his best to keep us free.. if it means going to war then, it means going to war. Other Presidents did it or do you remember…..

The Civil War
World War I
World War II
Korea
Vietnam
Gulf War
Yes, you may not have agreed to these but, there weren’t too many protestors against the President at the time of World War I or World War II. The protesters are more well know today because of TV but more because the men today are not men anymore, they are WIMPS!!!!!!! In my opinion, we have probably more women than men that would be willing to fight for our country and be proud of it.

For our troops…

Self explanatory….

Did you go into the military as a profession or to get a college degree????

SIMPLE AS THAT!!!

Yes, all men still have to register, but they have not been drafted. The ones that are fighting the war took the job. Now, they have to do what they were trained to do. Unfortunately, it is more hazardous for this on-the-job training then when I had on-the-job training for my nice cozy desk job – might I add in the comforts of my own home. And the ones that are there are not raising so much chaos as the ones that here at home.

For Jesus..

Come on! Do you really think that Jesus would want our President (or any other one for that matter) impeached. He put him into office…. TWICE!!!

Nothing more to say on that one!

Well, if the people would think about what the sign really means, they actually may have to change the sign.

And for all those sign bearers from Saturday:

Remember this, I didn’t carry a sign to impeach the former President. God told me to respect the man in authority. I never said anything bad about him – I just choose not to say anything about him. I prayed and supported our former President until God had the right man for the right time put into office. Now, be an American, support your President, and think before someone says “Here’s your sign” . And might I add… you probably need to get a real job!

That’s my opinion and I am entitled to it. I think Dennis Miller used to use some sort of wording like that on his TV show on HBO years ago. I am going to give him credit for that saying.

I am jumping down now

Have a great day..

By the way, 2.4 more pounds are gone!!!!!!!

Now, to work on the other 12.6 pounds so I can buy a new outfit. I told myself I would buy a new outfit after 20 pounds lost.

I have been reading a lot of vintage books here lately. Vintage cookbooks, expressions from the South, etc.. Right now I am reading The Lost Art of Pie Making Mad Easy by Barbara Swell

So... here's a pie recipe that sounds good.

Strawberry Pie
3 pints fresh strawberries
3/4 cup sugar
3 tbs. cornstarch dissolved in 1/2 cup water
2 tbs. lemon juice
A baked and cooled 9" pie crust

Slice the caps off washed and dried strawberries. Place two cups of berries in a saucepan and crush with a potato masher. Add sugar(more or less to your taste)and cornstarch dissolved in water. Bring slowly to a boil, stirring constantly. Simmer on low heat until thickened and clear, about 5 more minutes. Remove from stove , stir in lemon juice, and allow it to cool until it's just a bit warm. At this point, you can place the strawberries in a baked crust pointed side up and pour glaze over, or you can stir in halved berries, then pour into your crust. Chill at least 3 hours until glaze sets up. Sever with freshly whipped cream.

Dissolve a packet of lemon Jello in one cup of boiling water. When cool add sauerkraut, lemon jiuce, salt and paprika. Fill individual molds or cups. Chill. this recipe will make six individual cups. At serving time, removed from molds. Cut in any desired shapes and use as a garnish for salads or cold meats.

Whatever happened to.....

I just read MIDNIGHT MUSINGS comments about the tragedy at Virginia Tech.

I being a Virginia native feel really close to this tragedy. My mother's birthplace is about 1 hr away. So I came up with these thoughts:

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO......

1. Kids playing outside...
The TV is now our babysitter, our comforter, our education, our exercise, our entertainment and sadly our god.

Kids don't play out side anymore because...
1. the TV says you have to protect the children because the predators have watched a TV show or movie that shows someone getting away with hurting children. We as parents, because of TV have become overprotective. Also, parents are so wrapped up in being super parents that they don't have time to go outside, get some fresh air and play ball with our children. When the children ask to go outside they are told in a minute go watch TV.

If you ask someone how many Bibles are in their homes, they may say 1- the family Bible. Why do they have it? Because it was their mothers or grandmothers and they had one and I should too. Or it has all the family history in it.
Do they read it? Maybe.. They probably spend more time dusting it then reading it. I have a family Bible, it was my mother's, I spend more time dusting that one but I read one of 3 that are in my home -every day- and some days I read it more than other days. I also have a Bible in my car... and one in my purse. Not to mention, the many in my daughter's room or the ones she has at college.

Then ask how many tvs a family has. Well, there is one in the family room, kitchen, our bedroom, each one of the kids have one in their bedrooms and I forgot about the one that the video games are hooked up to. I have 2 tvs. one in the living room and one in the sewing room (which I dropped and have to change channels by the tv and not the remote). The kids have a tv in their bedroom but do they have a Bible of any sort? and more importantly do they read it? Parents won't let the computers in their bedrooms, because of cyber predators but they let a tv in a child's bedroom where they can learn just as much as they can on the internet. The only difference is being that the child can interact on the computer and video games but not the tv- yet.
Our children are obese and have no imagination because we allow our children to watch it. No wonder the next generation will have a shorter life expectancy than our generation..

and they are wimps. They don't even know how to protect themselves against the bully little less fight off a man with a gun.. who has time to reload because they didn't pay enough attention to his actions other than I hope he doesn't point his gun my way. I am not an advocate for violence but sometimes actions need to be taken instead of please don't do that...
When I was growing up, it wasn't unusual for my mother to get a call because my brother was being a bully. And it didn't hurt anything but my pride and behind when I did something wrong to get the belt to my behind. But of course, my parents didn''t beat us to death, they just let us know who (on this earth) was the boss of me. My parents bred respect for them and all other people young and old. A little discipline never hurt anyone... not please don't do that or after I count to 3 you will get a time out. We never had time outs.. not even in school!

Now, if you look at your child with that you're in trouble look, they can call 911 or even yet on lookers can do it also. Which has made the parents scared of their children.. which is another rant!

I had to do it!

You Are a Little Messy

You aren't the cleanest person in the world, but you're definitely not a slob.
You clean up when you have the time, but you're realistic about what you can get done.
Generally, you're pretty organized and tidy - though you may have a few hidden messes.
You eventually get around to making things spotless, but you do it on your own schedule!

TOP JOBS

I went surfing this morning and found this bit of info:

Across all occupations, on average 47 percent of those surveyed said they were satisfied with their jobs and 33 percent reported being very happy.

Here are the Top 10 most gratifying jobs and the percentage of subjects who said they were very satisfied with the job:

Weight Watchers Wednesday

Well, I have shrunk another 1.4 pounds. That was great considering I had a fast food craving.

Friday night was KFC. I wanted some really bad.
I called Mrs. Riffe and asked if she had dinner and I picked up some dinner for her too.
The boy in the drive thru kind of thought I was crazy when I said "my order isn't right, I said no biscuit and there is one in my dinner". He replied "But it comes with the meal." Anyway, I just thought that either they could sell it or I could throw it away. If they sold it, they could make more money and continue to be in business, clogging our arteries, so we can go to TGH, get unclogged arteries and then eat at McDonalds, to start the vicious cycle again.
Then I went to her house and we ate dinner together. That was really nice. I didn't want to go home. She had A/C, I don't. No, that isn't the real reason why I didn't want to go home. We have such good fellowship when we are together.

Monday night before visitation, I went to Sonic. Had the grilled chicken sandwich, very good. Pam you would like it - it has HONEY MUSTARD on it. And I had tater tots. Sooooooooo bad, but tasted soooooooooooo good! They gave me heartburn so I enjoyed them with an after dinner mint -ROLAIDS!

My secret-- A lot of prayer but physically there is none.
Just fresh fruits and vegetables. Lots
Stay away from the pantry - Don't keep the junk food in the house (easy when you are by yourself).
Drink water only (hard for me as I bled Diet Pepsi)occasionally, unsweetened iced tea. i don't crave food as often because I got rid of all of the Equal in the house and switched to Splenda.

I haven't been exercising because my walking partner can't right now. So, exercising isn't one I can attribute the loss to. But soon, i will need to exercise more.

I learned last night- it is ok to snack. Just limit yourself to the 100 calorie snack packs (when the bag is gone and you want more you have to get up to get it and most people won't get up and get another). Have better choices of snacks in your house. Yogurt, fruit, vegetables, etc.

My weekend

Well, it wasn't too eventful.
Went to Mom's on Saturday and we went to play Bingo. She won, I didn't. I figure that everytime I go someone else needs to win more than I do. Its the memories not the time or money, right? My mom loves Bingo so much that she even calls Bingo at the VFW and she has a lot of friends there. One Christmas, I bought her a Bingo bag. She really likes it because it is vinyl, ahd can just be wiped off if she spills something on it. She had a cloth one and Cara took her bingo dobbers and opened them and placed them upside down in her cloth one and ruined it. (A bingo dobber is almost like a magic market but the tip is about the size of a quarter and the bottle looks like a bottle of shoe polish.) It has pockets for her bingo dobbers and then the middle is for her "lucky charms" (I don't think she has any, but she hides her winnings in there). She is really good at bingo. she can keep track of her 3 sheets with 9 cards per sheet and my 2 sheets, too.

Sunday, I went to church and started to hear a really good Sunday school lesson about Words and how they can either harm us or help us. Brother Gay is a really good teacher. I then got my babies - Bethany and Kodi and we had Sunday School and Jr. Church. They are really good children and I enjoy everytime I get to see them.
Then, I came home from church, opened the windows for a few hours- the A/C is broken, took a nap, woke up cold and closed the windows, went back to sleep, woke up again, finished reading the newspaper and clipping coupons.

I went back to church Sunday night and Brother Gay preached about brotherly love and how church members should greet new people and make the church members feel welcome as well as visitore. It was a great message. Hebrews 13:1-5.

I like to hear Brother Gay preach or as he says teach when my pastor can't be there. By the way, Pastor is home and getting better all the time.

My friend Pam tagged me to do this and yes, it was pretty interesting:

My real name, Donnette.
Well, I guess since there are 0 people with my name, I can’t use it anymore.
My real name mean “little Donna”. Donna is my mother’s first name, and her name means “Lady”. So I am a “little lady”. I see you rotfl. Quit it!!

My mother said when I was born that if I had been a boy, I would have been named after my father so why not have the first born daughter named after the mother. Also, her initials are DM and so are mine. She is Donna Maria and I am Donnette Michelle. Besides, she picked out my name when she was a little girl and said (to all of her friends) that was what she wanted to name her first daughter. Where the Missy came from? My dad’s mother nicknamed me that. Mom wanted to call me Shelly but it didn’t work that way.

My dad’s initials and my brothers were the same DE, so that was kind of neat.

Weight Watchers Results Wednesday

I DID IT AGAIN!!

I lost 1.4 lbs this week. Total 4.4 lbs.

I was a little discouraged last week because I gained .4 lb

Here is what I did:
I bought the scale. Yes, it cost a little bit of money but it was worth it. What I thought was 1 point was actually 2 and when it gets close to the end of the day (I stop eating before 7 pm, usually) and you are wanting one more bit, it can make a difference.

i learned that the small bag of popcorn at the movies is 7 cups and not 3. And each cup of movie popcorn is 1 point. and each point is about 100 calories for those of you who watch calories. I will have to make my own popcorn a 100 calorie bag (1 point) and try to take my it with me.

i didn't get to exercise this week. My walking partner was kind of busy.

And on a hallejuah note!
My pastor's surgery was yesterday, finally!
and he came through with flying colors.

God is good, all the time!

My Pastor

My Pastor, Jack Riffe needs your prayers right now. He had some chest pains yesterday and is at TGH right now possibly awaiting surgery.

Let me tell you what little bit I know about my pastor. He is a meek and quiet man. I know that he isn't Jesus, but I think Pastor walks and talks like Jesus did. He isn't loud, doesn't scream and he can talk to you in a way that is loving and kind and nothing more. When he preaches, he only preaches what God has told him to say. Many times he has just folded his sermon in his Bible and said I was going to preach on this but God said no, that and he would follow what God has said.
Right now, I am teaching both Sunday School and Junior church. Sometimes, we have 9 children, sometimes we have 0 children. But through his example, he has taught me to keep on, keeping on.

One of the best days of my life was when I went to church on March 8, 2006 and he told me that he visited my sick Daddy that day and it was hard for Pastor to contain himself to try to tell me about his visit with my Daddy. I even saw a tear in his eye when he told me.
See, he led my Daddy to the Lord. Pastor had been trying for about 7 years to do this. He never pushed my Daddy into making any decisions and some days when he talked to my Daddy he just talked to my Daddy - nothing more then how's the fish biting or how's work going. But my Daddy knew what kind of man my Pastor IS.

When I asked my Daddy the day he got saved if he had any visitors that day (I knew Pastor was coming to visit.) He said your Preacher, my friend. Daddy didn't tell me about his salvation but now that I look back, I could tell it in his eyes. When I got home from church that night, he asked how his Brother Jack was doing and he smiled. What a sweet memory of my Daddy.

My daddy went home to be with the Lord on May 13, 2006. He didn't get a chance to follow in believer's baptism. He did get to go to church on Easter Sunday that year. That was the first time he ever got to hear my Pastor preach. He got to hear Pastor Turner a few time before (during school programs and graduation at West Gate) and Clarence Sexton when we took Grace to school or picked her up her freshman year.

My Pastor held his hand as I told my Daddy I would see him in heaven. My Pastor watched as my Daddy smiled at me, nodded his head like he was saying yes and took his last breath. My Pastor, I think was a little shocked when I said that church was the next day and I had to get ready for Sunday School class. It was business as usual, I think I said. My Pastor preached my Daddy's memorial service, which was hard enough for a Pastor to do but when you are friends, it is even harder.

Every since that day, my Pastor is like a father figure to me. I know I am part of the family of God but he and his family have made Grace and I feel like part of their family everytime I am around them. Grace calls the Pastor and Mrs. Riffe grandma and grandpa.

Everyone that knows me can probably see that I am having trouble typing this for the tears. My Daddy said I was always too "tenderhearted". I need to go so I can get some more tissues. Yes, I ran out again.

My favorite Bible verse:
"Delight thyself also in the Lord and He shalll give thee the desires of thine heart".
Psalm 37:4 KJV
