Grace's first Sunday School lesson was today. She was so prepared. I was so proud of her (and still am). Unfortunately, Vera fell and bruised her hip Wednesday (she thought it was broken at first)and the children didn't come to Sunday School. So I got to sit in church for the first time on about 2 months. It was nice and I enjoyed the sermon, but I wished that there had been children today.

Vera slipped on a fabric softener sheet that had fallen on the floor. So be careful when you use fabric softener sheets. I got an email once to be careful with the lint catcher in your dryer as the fabric softener adheres to the lint catcher and can cause your dryer to catch fire. I forwarded the email to all of my friends and my frient Mary gave me this advice. If you use fabric softener sheets wash your lint catcher with hot soapy water and dry completely. If you put water through your lint catcher and the water doesn't go through it, then your lint catcher is clogged and needs to be washed. I tried it and washed my lint catcher and it seems to
make the dryer work better. HUM... goes to show that you cannot leave any thing dirty..

This one's for Pam

I tried this one from Pam's blog. Very interesting. Sorry I had to comment after each one. Have a great Thursday.

1. Missy needs her medicine.
It is probably about time to take the diabetes medicine.
2. Missy needs a new look.
Yep, it is time for Teresa to do my hair.
3. Missy needs to lose weight.
Duh, already trying to do that.
4. Missy needs a cat.
Yea, right. A bird, dog and a cat – don’t think so. Not a cat lover.
Won't harm them but don’t need them.
5. Missy needs an American Eskimo dog.
Already have the dog I need.
6. Missy needs a dresser, twin bed and bedding.
Let’s build a new room to put them in.
7. Missy needs someone who will love and understand her.
Already have that.. Jesus loves me.
8. Missy needs a positive odedience class.
Ruff, ruff
9. Missy needs a home.
Have one. Don’t need another one. Unless I win it, which is very unlikely
because you have to enter to win or buy a ticket.
10. Missy needs to go back to her roots
What, my hair color or my hometown?

What are all of those **10**s for? I am sooooooooo glad you asked.

I have lost 10#s.

Only 10 more to go and I can buy a new outfit.
Only about 90 more to go until I hit my goal.

I was kind of nervous going last night because I have eaten a lot since Grace got home:

biscuit and gravy Sunday morning (ONLY 1)
Sunday lunch at Mitchell's Fish Market
snacked Sunday night and Monday night. Was within what I could have but I usually don't eat anything after supper.

I am so proud of myself.

Did I mention I lost 10#s.

.. oh and by the way, my daughter is home for the summer from college.

May 13, 2007

First of all to all the mothers out there... Whether you are a mother to your pet or a daughter or a son. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY.

Today, is a very special day for all of you. But today is a very special day for me, too for 2 reasons:
1.

This morning around 12:01 am, my daughter returned home from college. We had a great day today. We went to church and while I was teaching Jr. Church, I heard her sing. This must be her signature song.. "Little is much"
Miss Julee was in the nursery and she turned up the speaker so I could hear it. I don't think she needed to turn it up because with the power of my daughter's voice, I could have heard it on the next block. Was I beaming.. but of course.

After church, we went to Westshore Plaza to JC Penney and I got her 2 new dresses... Grace in a dress and not a skirt and a top is a rarity so when she liked them, we got them. Grace then treated me to dinner at Mitchell's Fish Market. I had the Shrimp Americana (the lunch entree) the dinner entree is Shrimp and scallops Americana and is about $7.00 a plate more. And then to the Verizon wireless repair store to get her phone fixed. Broken and it costs $50.00 deductible to replace.

Then we came home and in true Crownie fashion, she took a Sunday afternoon nap.
2.

Do you see the picture of the handsome man with my daughter? That is my daddy. He went to be with Jesus in Heaven on May 13, 2006. This is the first year without him. Boy do I miss him, STILL. But I know he is not suffering and he would be very proud of what I have accomplished without him here. Isn't that strange, that we look for the approval of our earthly parents before looking for approval from our Heavenly Father? I am really doing better than I had expected. But shouldn't I? I know who holds my hand and who my Comforter is. And with Him.. all things are possible.

Hope everyone had a great Mother's Day. See you soon. Going to West Gate to go to church tonight. Our church has a tradition of not having Sunday evening service on Mother's Day.

I've done it now!

I having been thinking a lot about what I would like to do with my life.
is it a "mid-life crisis"? I don't think so.

Well, I did some checking and with a little shove by my cousin, Margie and a lot of prayer.

I will be returning to school..

Yes, I am going to finish my degree in Business Administration.

I have 29 credit hours already done and do not need that much more to finish.

I will only get credit for 26 because I made a D in College Algebra and that credit won't transfer.

I will be taking a speech class during the summer semester.

Then, we will play it by hear from there.

My company will pay for most of the education - 80% as long as I maintain a C average. It will be tough at first but I can do it.

I went to register for my class yesterday. I was totally lost. where is room 237 (advising) and where is the book store? But I finally found what I needed and where I needed to be, bought my books, paid for my class, etc. As I was leaving, I was turned around, not lost mind you.. One of the professors was coming down the stairs and asked "Can I help you, are you lost?" . I didn't think he was talking to me so I kept looking at my receipts (in my mind, I was thinking Wow you've done it now and Yes, what a great thing to do, all this at the same time). So, I said to him "me?". He said "yes, you look lost." He then asked me what I was looking for and I said "my car!". He said he couldn't help me with that but I then said if I can find the parking lot, I can find my car. My key has one of those buttons(as Grace would say thingys) that make my car make a noise when I press it.

I was going in the right direction, just got turned around. What an impression I left on the campus. Maybe I need to go back to college!!!

Is there a COLLEGE MAP 101 class I can take?

You Are Sunrise

You enjoy living a slow, fulfilling life. You enjoy living every moment, no matter how ordinary.
You are a person of reflection and meditation. You start and end every day by looking inward.
Caring and giving, you enjoy making people happy. You're often cooking for friends or buying them gifts.
All in all, you know how to love life for what it is - not for how it should be.

You Are Boston

Both modern and old school, you never forget your roots.
Well educated and a little snobby, you demand the best.
And quite frankly, you think you are the best.

My Soapbox!!!!!

I have had something on my mind since Saturday morning when I went to the Relay for Life.

I stopped at the traffic light at MLK and Dale Mabry and was going to head north on Hillsborough Ave. The cancer park had a bunch of protesters standing on the side of the road(that’s the north east corner). So now,I must jump up on my soapbox:

Each sign began like this:

IMPEACH BUSH 4

then each person (there were about 8, could have been more, could have been less) had this added to it:

American
Our Troops
Jesus
There may have been other "reasons" to impeach Bush but those were the ones that caught my eye because I was trying to pay attention to what I was doing -DRIVING!!!

Anyway, this has been on my mind and I need to respond.

First of all, for all of you who want to impeach the President, do you actually know what impeach means?
So for all of you "rocket scientists" who want to impeach the President of the United States here is Webster's definition. that is Merrian-Webster (the dictionary)
1 a : to bring an accusation against b : to charge with a crime or misdemeanor; specifically : to charge (a public official) before a competent tribunal with misconduct in office c : to remove from office especially for misconduct
2 : to cast doubt on; especially : to challenge the credibility or validity of

If you don't have a Webster's dictionary sitting on the shelf next to the family Bible or it is too much trouble to pull it down and dust it off then you can go to:
http://www.m-w.com/ to find out for yourselves.

You protestors probably feel that impeach means to remove from office. Well, let me tell you something. Before our former President was in office, there had only been one President Impeached: Andrew Johnson
Now, there is another one: William Jefferson Clinton (ouch it hurts to even type the name).

And no, Richard M. Nixon wasn’t impeached, he resigned and wasn’t asked to!

Yes, and for all you who are into politics, they were both DEMOCRATS!!!!!!
HUM!!!!

NOW, FOR THE “SIGNS”

For America- the President has tried his best to keep us free.. if it means going to war then, it means going to war. Other Presidents did it or do you remember…..

The Civil War
World War I
World War II
Korea
Vietnam
Gulf War
Yes, you may not have agreed to these but, there weren’t too many protestors against the President at the time of World War I or World War II. The protesters are more well know today because of TV but more because the men today are not men anymore, they are WIMPS!!!!!!! In my opinion, we have probably more women than men that would be willing to fight for our country and be proud of it.

For our troops…

Self explanatory….

Did you go into the military as a profession or to get a college degree????

SIMPLE AS THAT!!!

Yes, all men still have to register, but they have not been drafted. The ones that are fighting the war took the job. Now, they have to do what they were trained to do. Unfortunately, it is more hazardous for this on-the-job training then when I had on-the-job training for my nice cozy desk job – might I add in the comforts of my own home. And the ones that are there are not raising so much chaos as the ones that here at home.

For Jesus..

Come on! Do you really think that Jesus would want our President (or any other one for that matter) impeached. He put him into office…. TWICE!!!

Nothing more to say on that one!

Well, if the people would think about what the sign really means, they actually may have to change the sign.

And for all those sign bearers from Saturday:

Remember this, I didn’t carry a sign to impeach the former President. God told me to respect the man in authority. I never said anything bad about him – I just choose not to say anything about him. I prayed and supported our former President until God had the right man for the right time put into office. Now, be an American, support your President, and think before someone says “Here’s your sign” . And might I add… you probably need to get a real job!

That’s my opinion and I am entitled to it. I think Dennis Miller used to use some sort of wording like that on his TV show on HBO years ago. I am going to give him credit for that saying.

I am jumping down now

Have a great day..

By the way, 2.4 more pounds are gone!!!!!!!
That makes 7.4 lbs gone. I can fit into the clothes I bought last summer.
Now, to work on the other 12.6 pounds so I can buy a new outfit. I told myself I would buy a new outfit after 20 pounds lost.

I have been reading a lot of vintage books here lately. Vintage cookbooks, expressions from the South, etc.. Right now I am reading The Lost Art of Pie Making Mad Easy by Barbara Swell

So... here's a pie recipe that sounds good.

Strawberry Pie
3 pints fresh strawberries
3/4 cup sugar
3 tbs. cornstarch dissolved in 1/2 cup water
2 tbs. lemon juice
A baked and cooled 9" pie crust

Slice the caps off washed and dried strawberries. Place two cups of berries in a saucepan and crush with a potato masher. Add sugar(more or less to your taste)and cornstarch dissolved in water. Bring slowly to a boil, stirring constantly. Simmer on low heat until thickened and clear, about 5 more minutes. Remove from stove , stir in lemon juice, and allow it to cool until it's just a bit warm. At this point, you can place the strawberries in a baked crust pointed side up and pour glaze over, or you can stir in halved berries, then pour into your crust. Chill at least 3 hours until glaze sets up. Sever with freshly whipped cream.
