She's in Chicago

Grace called and is in Chicago. She left England @ 7:10 am and got to Chicago at 11:00 am. She couldn't talk long but she still has to travel to Knoxville, TN.

Thanks for the prayers and continue praying for their safety on the trip back to school.

For all that know me, remember May 13, 2006 my daddy went to heaven mainly because it was God's will and due to complications from Lung Cancer.

I really think that there are only a few charities we should support and why:

1. Any cause for Christ
Missionaries that are through a fundamental mission board. Children's Ministries, Fundamental Bible College (let me tell you about a young lady that goes to Crown College or some outstanding young gentlemen that have gone or go to Florida Baptist College..
Everything that is listed as a cause for Christ isn't always what they say they are. CHECK THEM OUT FIRST!!!!!!!!

If you are unsure of which ones to give to check with your Pastor and he can advise you.

2. The American Cancer Society

Because so many people are stricken with cancer today. My family has had at least 6 people that have died with cancer. Heaven is filled with a lot of my church members that have died with cancer.
One day I will need to tell you about my friend Vera. She is a cancer survivor..
Or how about the young lady who thought she had ovarian cancer, went to Moffitt Cancer Center and had an operation and found out that very day she doesn't have cancer. Sure, many have succumbed to cancer, but how many have survived?

3. The American Diabetes Association

I have diabetes, my daughter, 2 uncles, my cousin, 2 aunts and how many more family members that do not know it.
My church has about 5 members that do not have diabetes.

4. Any Cause for Children
Well, how can we not give for children, for legitimate causes...
There are some out there that I wouldn't help because of their reputation. I cannot name them all but before you support a cause, check it out.

Our children will be the ones running the nursing homes (they may even have to put us in one), making legislation for the senior citizens, and raising tomorrow's leaders. Why not make sure that they are well- educated (spiritually and scholastically) and healthy to become a leader of the country. They may be the next Lee Robertson, Clarence Sexton, Bruce Turner, Jack Riffe, Marlena Evans, Loretta Riffe, Rita Vernoy, Pam Rios, Jackie McCobb, Tim Padgett, Sarah Padgett, John and Sara Anderson, Charles and LuRonn Shaw, or maybe even JoJo Moffitt or Grace Bowden (she is on her way to becoming such a Godly Woman and she is my daugther.

Or for those of you who do not know these people and what they stand for. How about Ronald Reagan or the Georges (Washington, Bush and Bush).

I'm done now. Back to work.
Please help support the cause.

The moment of Truth!!

Now, that I can stop long enough from drinking my weight in water and grazing on my carrot sticks, squash, zucchini, radishes and cherry tomatoes. I can tell you how the Weight Watcher's Meeting went:

I lost 3.5 pounds !!!!

Hip, Hip Hooray!!!

A couple of cute stories to go along with it.
Story #1.
One of the requirements is that you drink at least 6 8 ounce glasses of water a day.
Well, I told Pam that I felt like a fish because I was swimming in soooo much water.
You guessed it.. my glasses are 16 ounces and not 8 ounces and I was drinking 6 of those a day.

It didn't hurt me and my feet are not swelling as bad. Yes, I am drinking 6 16 ounces of water and only 1 diet pepsi per day.

And one more for the road...
Yesterday was a pretty hectic day and I didn't get my mid morning snack and it make me hungrier all day long. Well, I hadn't eaten enough points yet and I knew what I was going to have for dinner. I was so hungry when I went to gas station that I went inside with my points calculator and started looking at the calories, fats and fiber on the bags in my right hand while figuring out the points on the calcuator with my left hand. I can have 9 pretzels for 2 points... woohoo!!! yippe skippy!!!

Now, that is either pretty silly or desparate. I think the later applies.

What did I have for dinner?
I am sooo glad you asked.

Well, I went to Applebee's. Nothing like going to the Weight Watchers meeting and then out to dinner afterwards, huh?

I had a Weight Watchers grilled shrimp salad.
It was very good. It was romaine lettuce, red onions and snow pea pods with a lemon vinagrette dressing. It is only 4 points and an unsweetened iced tea.

I still feel the urge to hop around the house like a rabbit.
Yes, I still think I am swimming, but I will make it work.

Now a little bit of ranting.
Why does all diet food have to have bell peppers in them. There are only 2 foods that I absolutely cannot stand to eat

1. bell peppers - red, green, purple, yellow orange or whatever other color they come in.

I tried a lean cuisine dinner the other day. it was a spinach, mushroom and chicken panini sandwich. It looked really, really good and I took a bite and what was the first taste in my mouth- roasted red peppers.
You can give me jalepeno, banana pepper or Greek pepper and I will enjoy them.

In fact, when I go out to eat, I will tell the waitress that I am allergic to them.

2. tuna fish (except for Pam's, my own or Subway's) and then I really have to be in the mood for it. I only have it in my house because I am supposed to have some sort of protein in the pantry if we have a natural disaster, right?

So, don't be offeneded if you invite me to dinner and I decline the tuna stuffed peppers. You can have my share. I will hop around the room with my carrot sticks and salad.

She Called

While I was working my house phone rang.
You see, I have 3 phones to answer now.
My work phone
my cell phone
and
my house phone.

My house phone usually doesn't ring during my work hours and when it does ring it is usually important.

The caller id said unknown name, unknown number.
I almost didn't answer it.
I thought it was another telemarketer.

When I said hello and the other person said MOM. I was surprised! It was my baby and she called to say hello and to ask me what I wanted her to bring me back.

I said anything that she would like to. But my thoughts were just yourself would be fine with me.

She said she has taken a lot of pictures and is having a great time. She bought a calling card for $10.00 and it lasts 21 minutes so she couldn't talk long.

She has been to London.
Went to Winston Churchill's museum and the War room for WWII.

I asked her if she had been to Buckingham Palace to make faces at the guards. She said No. That is one of her dreams is to make a guard laugh at Buckingham Palace and to go to Italy.

I don't have anything else to report. I don't know when they are leaving England and I don't know her schedule. all I know is she is in England and doing what God wants and God is watching over her and protecting her.

Weight Watchers

Well I finally did it.

I joined Weight Watchers again.

I weigh xxx and need to lose xxx to be healthier.

This time I will lose this weight for my health and for myself.

Not to:

1. please someone else.
2. please the world.

I have prayed about this and even cried myself to sleep (in the past) over my weight.

Meetings are Tuesday nights @ 5 pm.
I will keep you updated on Wednesday's as to my progress.

By the way, Grace made it to England ok. I haven't gotten any calls from her but I do know she can use the ATM in England, according to her bank balance.

Keep praying for her.

Off to England

Today, my daughter, Grace leaves for England on a missions trip with the Crown College Choir. They are visiting London, North Ireland and the campus of the British division of Crown College. What an exciting trip! Hope you have a great time baby ducks!

Please pray for them:

1. their testimonies
2. The hearts of the English will soften enough to hear the Gospel.
3. their safety.

I know that she is in God's hands and HIS WILL WILL BE DONE.

Going to mom's for the weekend, well I'll be back late Saturday afternoon in time to get everything ready for church on Sunday morning.

The dog is excited. I say "We're going to grandma's!" He grins and wags his tail. I think he hears, you want some cheese on your food.

Oh what a life! Wished I could find a pillow and sleep all day then play with my toys. The only thing I wouldn't do is chase the ball. Too exhausting.

Joke for the day

This was a chain email. Don't know who wrote it. It wasn't me!

A young ventriloquist is touring the clubs and noe night he’s doing a show in a small town in Arkansas.
With his dummy on his kenn, he starts going through his usual dumb blonde jokes when a blonde in the 4th row stands on her chair and starts shouting:

I’ve heard enough of your stupid blonde jokes. What makes you think you can stereotype women that way? What does the color of a person’s hair have to do with her worth as a human being?

Its guys like you who keep women like me from being respected at work and in the community an dfrom reaching our full potential as a person. Because you and your kind continue to perpetuate discrimination against not only blondes, but women in general, and all in the name of humor!

The embarrassed ventriloquist begins to apologize, and the blonde yells,

You stay out of this, mister! I’m talking to that little guy on your knee.

Enjoy!

Now for another piece of wisdom. This was sent to me by 2 people labeled
Apache Blessing

Live Simply.
Love Generously.
Care Deeply.
Speak Kindly.
Leave the Rest to God.

Happiness keeps You Sweet
Trials keep You Strong
Sorrows keep You Human,
Failures keep You Humble,
Success keeps You Glowing,
But Only God keeps You Going!

Have a great Wednesday. We get to go to church tonight.

To the tune of London Bridge...

GRACIE'S GOING TO ENGLAND, TO ENGLAND, TO ENGLAND
GRACIE'S GOING TO ENGLAND
IN 6 MORE DAYS!

Pray for Grace as she prepares to go to England with The Crown college choir. What an opportunityof a lifetime! As all parents.. if only I could have had the opportunity.

God has a wonderful work in store for her and the choir while they are there.
The more the preparing, the more the devil fights it. There have been soo many timese this semester that Grace wanted to come home and stay due to various reasons - Satan can really use your weaknesses to his gain. I learned that he uses them all the time instead of here and there.

God has granted Crown College the opportunity to spread the gospel to England.
God has granted Grace (my baby!) the opportunity to go.
HE gave the command,
HE saw the desire,
HE supplied the need
and all that needs to be done is to go.

I know that this is an experience that she will never forget and will cherish for the rest of her life. I know that millions of souls may or may not be saved, but if only one person gets to see a little bit of the JOY of Christianity through Grace, the choir and the school and gets saved than it will be worth it all. It only takes a little bit.

Can't you hear Grace singing, "Little is much when God is in it, labor not for wealth for fame there's a crown and you can win it, if you go in Jesus' name."

I am so proud of my baby. I am so thankful that at age 9 she came to me and said "Mommy, when are we going back to church? I want to go where Cara (our cousin) goes and make fun stuff with Miss Ebbie." She got to make fun stuff with Miss Ebbie but gets to go to church with a great group of Godly people at Smyrna Baptist Church.

Now, I have to go. For all of those who know me... guess what? I can't type anymore for the tears (happy ones). I'm not that coordinated.

WHAT KIND OF MAN WOULD DO SUCH A THING?

Jack Tilley, a Sergeant Major of the Army, was with a group of people
who recently were visiting wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Medical
Center in Washington, DC.
He saw a Special Forces soldier who had lost his right hand and
suffered severe wounds of his face and side of his body.
Sgt. Tilley wanted to honor him and show him respect without offending,
but what can you say or do in such a situation that will encourage and
uplift?

How do you shake the right hand of a soldier who has none?

He decided to act as though the hand was not missing and gripped the
soldiers wrist while speaking words of comfort and encouragement to
him.

However, there was another man in the group who knew exactly what to
do.

This man reverently took the soldier's stump of a hand in both of his
hands, bowed at the bedside, and prayed for him.

When he finished the prayer he stood up, bent over the soldier, kissed
him on the head, and told him that he loved him.

Sgt. Tilley was awed by the powerful expression of love for one of our
wounded heroes he was witnessing! "What a beautiful Christ-like
example!" he thought, moved to tears.

What kind of a man would do such a thing?

It was the wounded man's Commander-In-Chief, George W. Bush, and
President of The United States.

This eyewitness account was told by Sergeant Major Jack Tilley at a
Soldiers Breakfast at Red Stone Arsenal, AL, and recorded by Chaplain
James Henderson, who was stationed there.

This was sent to me via my email. I again get to get on my soapbox for at least one minute and leave you with these thoughts:

And the US President's approval rating is at an all time low? Hum, I forwarded to everyone I knew. Maybe I have seen it and sent it before, but it doesn't hurt to be reminded. He is our President and should be supported whether or not he is popular or not. We have supported the office before and didn't like the person, Remember?

Sorry to say would Hillary or Barack do that? And if so would be because of compassion (as a fellow Christian) ... or obligation (to get the most votes).

Have a great day!

Wednesday

I GET TO GO TO CHURCH TONIGHT!!!!!

I have been sooooo lost at home without being able to go to church on Sunday. My car has not been driven since Thursday, 3/1. I didn't find the keys to it until last night. Let me explain: My cousin, Margie took me to surgery, waited for me and then took me home. I unlocked the front door with my keys and went to bed. I was still groggy from anesthesia, pain killers, etc. that I didn't remember where I put them. I did know that my cousin went to the grocery store on Sunday and took my purse and my keys (so she could get back into the house) and I found them last night on my dresser. I haven't been sleeping in my own bed because the recliner was more comfortable, so I haven't been in my room long enough to look for anything except clean clothes. I didn't need keys so why would I look for them. Anyway, I am not taking any more pain medication and I slept in my own bed last night. That is really great because I slept so good.

Pray for me as I try to reintroduce all food products into my diet. Pray that I will not make bad choices - like my old favorite food groups- white sugar, white flour, lard, butter, processed meats, and chocolate. I want to choose fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, lean meats, lowfat low sugar foods. Help me to stay away from Chili's, Bennigan's, Applebee's, Longhorn Steakhouse, Smoky Bones BBQ, Sonny's, Sonic, Miami Subs, and other restaurants. The longer I can stay out of there, the better it is for me.

Sunday, March 4, 2007

Well, it is Sunday and the first Sunday I haven't actually gone to church in almost a year. The last time I missed a Sunday service was the day I had my father's memorial service in Virginia on 5/29/06.

Anyway, I am recovering from surgery, the medical name for my surgery is a cholecystectomy. That means the doctor removed my gall bladder. I came home from surgery on Friday @ 2:45 pm. Ate cream of chicken cup of soup for dinner. This is the one where you add hot water to the powder mix and stir and eat (well, in my case, drink). Saturday for breakfast I got oatmeal (yuck!) with just a little sugar to dress up the taste. For lunch I had chunky chicken and dumpling soup (by Campbell's) more broth than dumplings, vegetables or chicken and about 3/4 of a slice of dry white toast. yummy!!! I pretended it was steak and potatoes and I got through it. I then had a turkey sandwich for dinner - just bread and deli style turkey meat - no mayo, mustard or ketchup. Pretty dry. I can now have diet pepsi which helps me burp and get rid of the pressure on my stomach.

For breakfast this morning, I got to have frosted mini wheat cereal. I am not a milk drinker so I had just enough milk to soften up the cereal so I could eat it. For lunch I had easy mac. Macaroni and cheese sounds so simple but for me is soooo gourmet. I can eat yogurt, ritz crackers, easy mac, turkey slices and bland stuff but I am afraid the Outback, Longhorn and Sam Seltzer's steak houses will have to wait until next month for me to try them. Tomorrow evening, I may broil a piece of chicken breast (with a little salt, pepper and light garlic powder) for supper. Sounds really good doesn't it. I wish I could have more but I have to retrain myself to eat better, anyway so this is a blessing.

Well, I am getting tired again. For my church service today, I listened to Josh Vernoy's sermon. Tonight, I may feel up to listening to the service @ Temple Baptist. I am playing everything by ear. I am so used to doing for myself that it is hard for me not to get dressed and go to my church tonight. But, I am afraid that if I drive too soon after the surgery I may hurt myself worse. I know I will try to go Wednesday though.

Surgery is done!

All is well.
I went in for gall bladder removal and the doctor did what he was supposed to do.
He removed my gall bladder. My stomach is sore. It feels like I won the contest for doing the most situps- at least 500! But in about a month, I will be able to eat a steak and salad without labor pains beginnning at the bottom of my chest and running throughout my digestive system.

I met all the interns and residents. I even had a conversation with Dominick. He asked if I was praying with the couple when he first came by. I said yes that is my pastor and his wife. It turns out that he is a Baptist also. He went on a missions trip to Romania and did surgery for the campus outreach (I think that is what he said, I don't remember everything). He was telling me that most of the surgeries done in Romania is with epidural anesthesia instead of what I had.

I had a bad experience with Tampa General when my daughter was born 20 years ago (they lost her) and so I wasn't too happy when they said TGH for the surgery. But they were redeemed, yesterday.

Time to rest. More later.

What a surprise when 12 pink roses were delivered to my door yesterday.
The card said:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
MOMMY

Well, I picked up the phone and called my mother and left a message saying thanks for the flowers. I was still working when she called back and told her again thanks mom the flowers are beautiful. Told her I had to go and would call back again when I got off work.

I kept on working and when I got off work, I was going to pay my on line bills and noticed that Grace's bank account was considerably smaller than it was the day before. I said to myself she's been shopping again. I looked at the activity and saw Jennie's Florist and then said oops she sent the flowers. I didn't pay attention to anything else but the words Jennie's Florist and left her bank activty page and went ahead and paid my bills.

After I turned off the computers (work and home) I took my camera phone and took a picture of them and sent them to her and said Thanks I love them.

I then had to call my mother and ask did you send flowers. She said no, but in between our phone calls to each other yesterday she called Brian and asked if he did it and he had said no.

I didn't think that Grace would send me flowers because I know that she can't afford them because of being a college student and she knows that I don't like the hoopla that goes with birthdays. Just saying Happy Birthday is just enough for me. In fact, I didn't expect anything from her because she had texted me before she started classes yesterday Happy Birthday, Mommy. So, I had figured that was my birthday greeting. Which was exactly what I had expected. What a blessing it is to have your child do something so sweet.
